Governor calls for polio eradication

It is the government’s foremost and collective responsibility to turn Pakistan into a healthier and stronger piece of land and the eradication of Polio is a national obligation, Punjab Governor Latif Khosa said while addressing the participants of Rotary International Polio Plus Committee headed by International Pakistan Polio Plus Committee Chairman Aziz Memon.The governor said the government was fully committed to saving children from polio and all efforts were being made make Pakistan polio-free. He said the Polio Eradication Initiative was launched in 1994 by Benazir Bhutto when she administered vaccine to her own daughter and vowed that “she will protect every son and daughter of Pakistan from this crippling decease”. He said eradication of polio was a universal task and had to be performed with the global community. He said there must be strict accountability and zero tolerance for sub-optimal performance in this cause as it relate to the health and well being of children. On this occasion he also appreciated the Rotary International’s generosity and commitment towards the Polio Eradication Campaign. Later on Khosa inaugurated the Eradication Polio Campaign by administrating polio drops to the children. Memon also briefed the initiatives and achievements taken by the International Pakistan Polio Plus Committee.
