The founding trustee of Anjuman-e-Islamia Trust – the sponsor of Jinnah University for Women (JUW) – will not participate in this year’s university convocation on April 27 as the varsity chancellor “is not qualified to preside over the convocation”.
JUW Board of Governors member Mahfooz Yar Khan has stated that the JUW chancellor, Wajeehuddin Ahmed, is a diploma holder from the Jinnah Poly Technique Institute and therefore does not qualify the criteria.
Khan – also the Anjuman-e-Islamia Trust Vice President – said: “Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, being the patron of the university, needs to take serious notice of its current administration, because this reputable institution is not just being driven to the ground but the corrupt actions of the administration are also tarnishing the pristine memories of Rayazuddin Ahmed, the Anjuman-e-Islamia Trust founder, and Prof Noorus Sabah Chughtai, former JUW chancellor.”
The JUW was established in 1998 and is the first women university in Pakistan, which was established to ensure quality higher education for women.
The university now comprises 22 departments offering graduate and postgraduate programmes, and has a qualified faculty of more than 200.
