Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, strongly condemning the flood of obscenity and vulgarity in the media, has said that certain secularists are promoting immorality through channels and advertisements and this was hurting the Islamic character of the country. In a statement here on Monday, he said that PEMRA had shut its eyes to the immorality being promoted through the media and there was none to take notice of the menace. “Nude and obscene programmes and talks are being presented in the media advertisements and other programmes which are ruining the morals of the younger generation,” he said, adding that the fashion shows seemed to be from some other culture and not Pakistan’s. “Different channels are competing with each other in the promotion of Indian culture and there seemed to be the official hand behind all this practice,” he said. Baloch said under the constitution and the law of the country, obscene or immoral programme or scenes could not be presented on any channel or but there was no one to check all this. “The flood of immorality has entered the educational institutions and certain secular elements were on the mission to promote immorality in order to distract the youth from the Islamic teachings,” Baloch said. He demanded of the rulers to stop obscene and vulgar programmes on the media and impose a ban on India programs and channels in the country. He warned that if the government did not take due notice of the menace, the JI would stage protest and sit-in all over the country to build public opinion against the evil.
