‘Dawood college to get varsity status’

Acting principal of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) has said that the college will soon upgraded into a university.
Speaking at the “orientation day” held on Monday at the DCET auditorium, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh – also the Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) Vice Chancellor – said the summary to get DCET a varsity status is with the Sindh chief minister for formal approval, after which it will be presented in the Sindh Assembly for passage into an act.
“In today’s world, professional education is vital for success in the society as well as being a national service,” Shaikh said. “More than 400 students enrolled at the DCET in various technologies this year have to take their education seriously, as it is laying a foundation of their lives.
He added that the DCET students have to become good engineers, who are a need of the country.
The SMIU vice chancellor pledged that as the DCET is completing 50 years of its foundation this year, it will be converted into a top-quality educational institution of the country with the help of college staff members and students.
He said that after devolution of the Federal Education Ministry under the 18th Amendment, the DCET came under the administrative control of the Sindh government last year.
Now the seats for urban areas of Sindh have been increased from 114 to 173 and for rural areas from 66 to 173, he said, adding that 100 seats have been reserved for the self-financing scheme.
Now the students, hailing from different parts of Sindh and other provinces, who have succeeded in getting admission to the college, have to engage themselves in the learning process at the college.
Dr Naseem Ahmed among other chairmen of different DCET departments also spoke on the occasion.
