Ulemas asked to play role in polio drive

Punjab Minister for Labour and Auqaf Ehsan-ud-Din Qureshi has said that ulemas have deep respect among the masses, therefore, they should communicate the people regarding administering of polio drops during current 3-day anti-polio campaign to be launched from April 23. He said ulema can successfully execute the awareness campaign in mosques especially during prayer hours to the society. He also asked the Labour Department officials and social security doctors and paramedics to launch a comprehensive campaign with renewed determination against the menace of Polio in the current anti-Polio campaign. While talking to delegations of people, ulema, social security doctors and paramedics, Qureshi said with the cooperation of all segments of society as well as the international donor organisations, polio will be completely wiped out from the country. He said parents, teachers, elected representatives and Ulema have to play their effective role for complete eradication of polio from the country. He said the government would facilitate the NGOs and private sector to join hand for the elimination of this menace from the country and to create awareness among the parents that anti-polio dose should be given to every child under 5 years of age during the current anti-polio campaign and to teach them that repeated doses to the children were safe. More than 38,000 teams would ensure to give polio drops to 1 crore 66 lakh children up to the age of five years till the end of this campaign, he added. Rehman also said that education was the top priority of the provincial government and said innovative steps had been taken to improve the quality of education in the province.
