PPP’s Abdul Salam Thaheem laid to rest

The Sindh Minister for Technical Education and a senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Abdul Salam Thaheem passed away at a local hospital on Sunday morning. Thaheem had been ill for quite some time, as he was suffering from an ailment of the kidney.
The deceased was a PPP Member Provincial Assembly from the Sanghar district. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in the evening.
Thaheem belonged to an upper middle class family and was a very loyal member of his party. He was at the forefront of and played an important role in the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in the 1980s, and rendered many sacrifices for the cause and his party.
In return for his support for democracy, the Pakistan Army attacked Thaheem’s village and killed several residents, including some of his close relatives. He was made the minister for education in the first government of the PPP.
