National immunisation campaign starts today

The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration is all set for launching four days national immunization campaign starting in Islamabad from today.
In this regard, the District Health Department, Islamabad, in coordination with CDA, Federal Directorate of Education, CADD, private educational institutions and WHO, has made special comprehensive arrangements, following the directives of Chief Commissioner, Islamabad and Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, for making the campaign more effective and successful, says a press release issued here This time more efforts are put in and over 600 volunteers and teachers who were given training by the master trainers of ICT health department and WHO, are participating in this immunization campaign. 274 house to house, 34 fixed and 24 transit teams for rural, who were imparted training besides CDA volunteers for urban areas are participating in the drive.
As per WHO, assessment report, during the previous anti-polio drive, ICTA had achieved 97 per cent target in the rural area and CDA 93 per cent in urban area. Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, said that this time also 100 per cent target would be achieved.
300 lady health workers and 200 nurses of PIMS are also participating in the polio campaign. CDA has also deployed 500 teams for the urban area which has been divided into 15 zones and rural area into 12 zones.
As many as 227,000 children would be targeted during the drive in Islamabad. Special staff of Local Government, union councils and Revenue Department has also been assigned polio duties with comprehensive logistic and manpower support for mobile teams. Strict monitoring would be carried out through 12 area in charges and 55 supervisors in rural areas including officials of WHO and independent monitors from private sector. The students of Islamic International Medical College have also been involved for independent monitoring of polio teams.
Special arrangements for 100 per cent coverage of slum areas and katchi abadies are in place for which polio teams are assigned special duties. It is pertinent to mention that students of colleges and universities is a fresh pilot initiative of Islamabad Administration which would add to the effectiveness to the polio drive and improve public awareness. The administration would also issue special complementary certificates to all those students participating in this initiative.
