Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday said he was not afraid of the country’s judiciary, as “the people who are part of the judiciary are my friends”, adding that his son Ali Musa Gilani would not seek bail from courts if he was sentenced in the chemical quota scam.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with Attorney General for Pakistan Irfan Qadir, Gilani said in case he was convicted in the contempt of court case, he would not seek presidential clemency.
He was of the opinion that his son was being targeted on behest of someone and he was also facing similar challenges.
During meeting, Attorney General Irfan Qadir briefed the PM about the possible outcome of apex court’s verdict and both discussed various legal complexities arising out of the adverse verdict.
On Tuesday, the attorney general would be arguing his prosecution case and it is expected that the seven-member larger bench would reserve its judgment in the issue after conclusion of his arguments.
Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for the prime minister, has already concluded his arguments over the issue.
While addressing the Muslim Hands International Conference at the Islamabad Convention Centre earlier, Prime Minister Gilani said all issues with India, including withdrawal of troops from Siachen and the Kashmir dispute, must be resolved through dialogue.
“I strongly believe that better sense will prevail on two sides and we will resolve these issues through dialogue,” Gilani said.
The conference on the topic of ‘Role of international NGO in relief and development in Pakistan’ attracted delegates of Muslim Hands International – a non-governmental organization – from 40 countries including Europe, Africa and Asia.
The prime minister said the era of warfare had ended and it was time to settle issues with other countries through negotiations.
He recalled that at the time he assumed office in 2008, Pakistan’s relations with India, Afghanistan and Iran were not satisfactory.
He said he took the initiative in normalizing the relations with India in particular and met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at an international summit and stressed for pursuing the dialogue policy.
Gilani said it was agreed in his several meeting with Dr Singh that issues including Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachen, water disputes and terrorism could be resolved through political will.
Prime Minister Gilani appreciated the services of the Muslim Hands International in more than 50 countries in the areas of development, reduction of poverty, promotion of education and for the rehabilitation of the people affected by different natural and man-made disasters.
Gilani said the conference recognized the very important role of NGOs in the development of Pakistan and also highlighted the imperative of forming partnerships to maximize the output through greater sharing of ideas, resources and collaborations.
He said the efforts of NGOs needed to be appreciated with Muslim Hands being at the forefront in such times of suffering and agony.
He said no country could attain desirable levels of development unless its affluent sections of society came forward and lent a helping hand to the government.

    • Pakistan and India are contending parties on the three issues. You must ask these questions at a proper forum, nevertheless, like all other issues or disputes, there is a way out. Indian leaders need courage and confidence of a big brother to resolve these issues. The sooner the better for both countries.

  1. Ofcourse he's not afraid of judiciary. He's already a convicted criminal having spent five years in jail and been to court numerous times. Only people with some self respect and dignity fear going to jail. His wife, sons and daughter are all immoral people. They feel right at home in jails.

  2. PM of Pakistan is still a child and is doing childish activities.moreover he is a mad man and is not suitable for this post and must resign from this responsible seat.Bcoz when the bull is mad it can hard and damage everyone. So better to remove him.

  3. what pray is a 'friendly judiciary'? if the people involved in a case against him are his 'friends' they should not be the ones involved in passing any judgement on him. Mr Peabrain has obviously never heard of an unbiased judiciary.

  4. The Prime Minister was unanimously elected by the people through its elected representatives. We must learn to live with democratic values. We must also learn to respect our elected leadership. If they do something wrong, we have a right to constructive and objective criticism. Passing cynical or foul remarks do not represent a democratic frame of mind. All politicians, whether in government or opposition, will have to appear before us, the highest Court of the people of Pakistan. We will have the right to hold them accountable and elect new government. It is our national duty to use our right to vote in an honest manner and then take responsibility for politicians we elect collectively. If we vote dishonestly for our petty considerations, then we have no right to crib about our bad choice.

  5. Why pakistan wants to control those three regions? Pakistan claims that kashmir is a muslim majority state and hence should be acceded to Pakistan. Let me ask Is Pakistan the chaudhary of Islam? India is host to 160 million muslims, does it mean we should accede to Pakistan? India is a secular nation and treats all religions equally……there is no question of acceding kashmir to Pakistan…..
As far as Siachen is concerned, not even a single grass grow there and India has its control from time immemorial, then why pakistan is so much worried about siachen and sir creek. Today, muslims in India are much prosperous, educated and rich then their fellow muslims in Pakistan. 60% muslims in India reside in Urban area and are very actively involved in national politics……..

  6. Indian govt spends Rs. 895 crores as Hajj subsidy to Indian muslims……whereas pakistan doesnt spend a single penny on the name of Islam(please note that islam is state religion of pakistan). Kashmiris have free trade rights, free education rights, tax subsidy in all sectors, millitary support, and many more privilages…… Why should kashmir be given to Pakistan, when the fellow kashmiris dont want to leave India. Kashmiris dont want to become part of country which is on the verge of extinction through its inter state terrorism and poor govt……

  7. As far as the missile test is concerned, i wish best of luck to pakistan scientists, who are suffering from insomnia from the day India has successfully launched its missile. Be cautious about the post launch pogrom, if the launch succeed, then it will be a bigger problem for pakistan then any other country as other countries have enough security to save them from attack but if the missile goes in hand of terrorist then where will fellow pakistanis go as neither their army nor govt is capable of countering terrorism…….. By the way, from where did pakistan got money to conduct tests….US,CHINA OR HAFEEZ SAEED, coz as per my knowledge neither your army nor your govt have enough money……..

  8. I would request all to boycott Pakistan Today till this leech from India is in the comments column.
