Compensation for target killing victims soon

The Sindh Finance Department has approved a summary of Rs 95.2 million for the compensation of families of party activists and supporters of different political parties who fell victim to violence in Karachi during the past year. Within the next few days, the cheques of compensation will be presented to the relatives of the deceased by the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Earlier, on the directions of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during the proceedings of a suo motu case on the law and order situation of Karachi, a committee to look into the targeted killings was constituted by the provincial government. The committee head, Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi had submitted a report to the Sindh government on the last year’s violence victims. The Supreme Court chief justice had directed the government for the immediate payment of compensation to the relatives of people killed in targeted killings. After the report, the Sindh chief minister forwarded a summary to the provincial finance department to release the compensation amount. According to the report, 476 political activists and supporters of different parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Awami National Party, Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Sunni Tehreek, Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami Tehreek, etc, were killed in incidents of targeted killings in the city.
