Islamabad Police on Thursday arrested six persons including a female drug-pusher and recovered two kilogram hashish and four pistols from their possession, a police spokesman said.
On a tip off, Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ahmed from Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad police arrested a female identified as Anwer Bibi from `Chungi No.26 in the area of Golra police station and recovered two kilogram hashish from her luggage. CIA police arrested Mubeen Malik from sector I-10/4 during routine patrolling in possession of 30 bore pistol. Tarnol police arrested an accused Inayat Ali for having 30 bore pistol while Bhara Kahu police apprehended another accused Ejaz during special checking in possession of 30 bore pistol and ten rounds. Industrial area police arrested a dacoit identified as Tahir Islam and recovered 32 bore pistol from him. Ramna police arrested a thief Aamir Shehzad and recovered stolen items from his possession. Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons under relevant sections and further investigation is underway.
Function arranged to pay tribute to Allama Iqbal: The Nazariya Pakistan Council (NPC), Islamabad, on Thursday arranged a function to pay homage to the poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Addressing a gathering of girl students of various colleges of Islamabad at Aiwaan-i-Quaid, Executive Secretary (NPC), Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said that it was the message of `Khudi’ in Iqbal’s poetry that painted the very idea of Pakistan to which Quaid-i-Azam brought to life through his matchless and sincere leadership.
“We can still maintain unity and equity among the Islamic countries through understanding and spreading the message, the poet of the East had given to the whole Muslim world through his thought provoking poetry,” he said. In brief address, Dr Ayub Sabir mentioned that Iqbal’s poetry gives us the spirit of respecting very being which in fact transforms us in a true Muslim. He said the new generation owes to keep this message as this is the only source through which we can build our country according to the dreams of father of nation.
Poet and Scholar Anjum Khaleeq said that Iqbal’s message is an asset which needs to be protected by every generation as it carries with it the spirit of safety of our homeland. The event also featured rendering of Kalaam-i-Iqbal by students who showed keen interest while visiting the exhibition of Quaid’s pictures after the function.
Social networking sites affect academic grades: Increasing number of youngsters and school students are slowly getting addicted to social networking sites like Facebook and their parents fear it is affecting their academic performance. Recently a research by YouGov revealed that around one-fourth of children aged six to eleven spend significant amount of their time on surfing internet and networking on websites like Facebook and Twitter, BBC Reported.
However, hardly one-tenth of these kids spend time on internet for help in home work and other useful purposes. Majority of parents surveyed felt that if their kids were to be restricted in their usage of internet, they would perform better academically. Continuous use of social networking sites and other non-educational sites is badly affecting the grades of students, feared nearly half of the parents surveyed. Thirty-six percent parents of children aged six to ten said they were concerned about the web’s impact on academic performance. Among parents with children aged 12 to 17, 62 percent said they were worried.
Fears were raised even though most social networking sites have a “no minors” policy. Children aged 12 to 17 who use the internet every day for homework and social networking claimed they spend equal time on each – an hour or two a day. However, three-fourth parents surveyed said they should put some restrictions on home PC usage by children.
