Telecom specialists and distinguished speakers at the 5th Pakistan TeleCON 2012 conference presented progressive ideas for deployment of next-generation technologies in the telecom sector of Pakistan to enable swift economic growth, reach un-served areas of the country and encourage a new knowledge-based young Pakistani generation to tackle national issues and challenge the global frontiers.
The theme of the conference held in Karachi was “Riding the wave of technology and consolidation”.
PTA Chairman Dr Muhammad Yaseen delivered the keynote address and urged the specialists to devise solutions for streamlining and enriching the telecom infrastructure with global advancements.
Former science and technology minister Javed Jabbar and Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) Chairman Nadeem Elahi along with PTA Member Technical Khawar Siddique Khokhar acted as the chairpersons during various sessions.
In his opening remarks, SHAMROCK Communications President Menin Rodrigues welcomed the delegates from leading telecom companies and stressed the need for continued dialogue at knowledge-based forums to pursue communications, economic and social goals.
Various sessions at the day-long conference were focused on topics like “Regulatory – Technology and Economic Challenges”, “Maximising the Power of 3G Technology” and “ICT – Improving Access, Growth, Utilisation and Energy”.
The conference’s highlight was a high-level panel discussion on the topic of “Technology-aided communication and its social impact”, where experts and stakeholders discussed broad-based transformations in the cellular and IT arena, along with the expected challenges and solutions.
After an absorbing input from celebrated stalwarts like Jabbar, School of Leadership CEO Shireen Naqvi and Dubai Islamic Bank Corporate and Investment Banking Country Head Masood Karim, the panel came to the conclusion that though technology was the forerunner in the quest for advancements in business and communications, it was not necessary that human values be changed.
Over the years, TeleCon has become a successful annual forum which attracts participation from all industry professionals, stakeholders and social sectors specialists.
Other prominent speakers at the event included Universal Service Fund CEO Riaz Asher Siddiqui, Multinet Pakistan Managed Services Head Rehan Farooqui, PTCL SEVP Furqan Qureshi, Saquib Ahmad of Comptel Pakistan and Afghanistan, Schneider Electric VP Munib Khawaja and Supernet Limited COO Hamid Nawaz.

3G is not as successful as 4G. Pakistan should have avoided 3G and gone for Packet switching LTE 4G. This is bizarre!
it is so sad that where the technology has gone in the world and where our Country is standing. why not we and our politicians just think once just once to give every thing every last breath to our country why there is always our personal interest is important than national interest. why not we think, act & behave like a nation why? Pakistan it self is not a bad country it is we who are giving bad image to others that Pakistan is a bad living place. God almighty give us the vision to see beyond our personal interests and to move like a nation in the world.

Dear Friends! Don’t waste your time discussing 3g or 4g services in Pakistan. We are literally centuries behind the developed nations of the world because of all the hungry and thirsty authority holders in all the departments of the country. Everyone needs his/her share or the so-called ghunda tax. Telecom sector in Pakistan is considered to the most fruitful of all sectors in Pakistan. First of all our leaders and secondly our eternal enemies would never lets grow better.
The mobile phones which support good 4g networking are very pricy……………so,not many people will be able to enjoy 4g.3g mobiles are cheaper..so we have to think of all the things….
Afghanistan where telecommunication was restores after 2001 is on 3.7G and pakistan is still on 2g.

These Words R From Wikipedia not from Me. Pakistanis are Always Big Loosers. They Never Think Positive.
On 14 August 2010. Pakistan became the first country in the world to experience EVDO's RevB 3G technology that offers maximum speeds of 9.3 Mbit/s. At present the services of EVO Nitro (brand name) are available in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi. The RevA network, with speeds if up to 3.1 Mbit/s is available in over 100 cities of the country.
Access of a few cities to specific technology is not achievement, we are limited technology to few cities or two provinces. Afghanistan will develop faster if we left cross border involvement in Afghanistan.
