Quick-Reaction Force to be stationed at jails

After having beaten by terrorists at the Bannu jail, the authorities on Wednesday decided to station Quick-Reaction Force in the vicinity of jails while Rangers and FC personnel would be deployed at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi besides hearing all the cases registered under Anti-Terrorist Act inside prisons. Interior Minister Rehman Malik chaired a high-level meeting in Ministry of Interior in which law and order and security situation of the country, especially security at prisons was reviewed. The meeting was attended by federal interior secretary, additional secretary interior, provincial home secretaries, IGs, IG prisons, IG FC, DG NCMC and reps of law enforcement agencies. Malik advocated that prisons’ staff salary and pay and allowances should be at par with the police. He said jails would to be guarded by police. He said high-power jail reforms committee should be formed under the interior secretary with concerned home secretaries and IGs as members and security scanners to be installed in Jails. The minister said NADRA would conduct survey and scrutinise identity of all prisoners in the country for compilation of personal data base of prisoners. A summary would also be moved to the prime minister for establishing federal cadre prison service. He said that high security prisons would be set up for high security prisoners.
