Cultural show mesmerises children of slum areas

Colourful cultural and puppet shows on Wednesday mesmerised the children and youngsters of slum areas under the Talent Hunt Project of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The performers of National Performing Arts Group (NPAG) and
National Puppet Theater (NPT) enthralled the audience of rural areas with puppet shows, regional dances, national songs and skits to highlight various social issues.
While youngsters and children of Kachi Basti also showcased their skills to get selected for the Talent Bank of PNCA that provides platform to the budding performers for presenting their skills in various programmes of PNCA.
The cultural show for talent hunt is a regular feature of
PNCA’s activities that give informative entertainment to the youth of Kachi Basti and inculcate cultural values, said PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir, while talking to APP.
Music, folk dances and puppet shows promote cultural values among the youth of rural areas with glimpses of traditional heritage, he added.
With a focus on educating youth about their rich cultural heritage, the programme has been arranging travelling shows in slum areas of federal capital as well as other parts of the country.
“Children and youngsters largely participate in the shows at Kachi Abadis as they have less quality entertainment opportunities with information about their traditions,” he said, adding “These shows are also an attempt to engage them in healthy and positive activities and create interest in performing arts.”
The objective of this programme is to provide informative entertainment for the deprived communities and give a platform to the art lovers of these areas for expressing their creativity. It also enables them to utilise their talent in extra-curricular activities to the fullest that is also an essential part of their training.
“It is the responsibility of the state institutions to explore and polish the talent of our youth in an attempt to support the artists of the future generations,” he said.
The event was organised in collaboration with Ministry of National Heritage and Integration at Kachi Basti of G-7/2.
