The Capital Development Authority Wednesday formed a scrutiny committee to point out all illegal structures in Saidpur Village for their onward removal as part of a drive to revive its original rustic look.
The committee would be headed by CDA Environment Member Mian Waheed-ud-Din. The decision in this regard was made during a visit of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Islamabad Chairman Faisal Sakhi Butt and CDA Chairman Engineer Farkhand Iqbal.
Member of PM Task Force Asad Mumtaz Khan, political and social activist Chaudhry Jahangir and senior officers of CDA were also present there.
The committee would scrutinise all residences of the village as per final award list. He said a revised PC-I for the rehabilitation of Saidpur Village would be prepared with revised financial plan to execute remaining work of this tourist spot. Moreover, the water bodies existing in the area would be preserved to ensure water usage for domestic needs, besides adding to beauty of the area. After the allotment of residences, some people had raised illegal structures there marring the original beauty of the area.
The CDA would carry out fresh demarcation of the houses in collaboration with the residents to revive its tourist attraction as envisaged in original rehabilitation plan. During the visit, both the chairmen and locals of the village deliberated on the future development plan of the tourist village by resolving the issues hampering the development process. Prime Minister’s Task Force chairman asked CDA to carry out numbering of the all the original houses that would follow an operation to demolish all the illegal structures constructed in the village with the assistance of the locals. The development works in the village including road infrastructure and proper fencing should be initiated immediately to develop the Saidpur Tourist Village to the spirit of the original plan.
He said all the encroachments especially on the passage and entry points must be removed immediately and proper parking space available in the village should be utilised banning entry of the vehicles inside the tourist and restaurants area.
Faisal Butt also asked the CDA to provide golf carts facility at the entrance of the village to facilitate the visitors and add tourist attraction to the village.
He said that proper maintenance of nullah would revive its natural beauty and attraction alluring the people to visit the area. “Saidpur Village reflects historical and cultural heritage that would be preserved to attract more visitors in the capital city of Pakistan rich with natural beauty and green character,” the Task Force head said.
Farkhand Iqbal said that CDA would immediately start the development work in the Saidpur Tourist Village and locals would be taken on board for resolving the outstanding issues.
