The vice principal of Jinnah Polytechnic College (JPC) was gunned down in North Nazimabad by unidentified armed men in an apparent sectarian killing on Tuesday.
North Nazimabad SHO Sajid Javed said that Imran Haider Zaidi, 52, son of Ali Imam Zaidi, was going to his home located in North Karachi Sector 11-A when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle sprayed the victim’s car (T-8473) with bullets near the Board Office bus stop in North Nazimabad on Tuesday.
Imran was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim suffered four bullets, two each in his head and chest that proved fatal.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Gulberg SP Tanvir Alam Odho said the deceased belonged to the Shia sect and it appears to be the reason behind his killing.
Separately, unidentified armed attackers gunned down a private contractor in the Sohrab Goth area in the remits of Sachal police station.
Police identified the deceased as Zard Gul, son of Zareen Gul, a resident of Gulshan-e-Maymar. Police shifted the dead body to Abassi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed it over to the family.
Sachal SHO said that two attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire at the deceased outside his office in Sohrab Goth, killing him on the spot.
The deceased was an Afghani and owned a construction firm.
The reason behind his killing appears to be a personal enmity. “We are waiting for the family to register an FIR of the incident,” a policeman at the Sachal police station said.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police claimed to have arrested four alleged target killers in separate raids in the city.
According to SP Shahjahan, a police team raided a place near Crown Cinema at the Mauripur Road and took Abdul Hannan and his son Bilal Hussain alias Billa into custody.
The SIU team also recovered two TT pistols from their possession.
Shahjahan claimed that the suspects were involved in the murder of two PPP activists in Zia colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
In another raid, the SIU detained two more alleged target killers in the Eidgah police remits.
The suspects identified as Zuhaib and Mudasir were said to be involved in the killing of an MQM activist in the same area last year.
