The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices on Tuesday to Sindh Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police among other respondents to submit their comments on a petition challenging the ban on motorcycle pillion riding. The petition was filed against the Sindh government’s order by human rights activist Rana Faizul Hasan in person before the SHC on Monday. In the plea, Hasan submitted that Sindh Home Department issued order for the ban on pillion riding is illegal and unconstitutional, as it was against the constitutional articles 4, 5 and 25. He termed the order as the financial murder of approximately two million poor and middle-class citizens. The petitioner submitted that pillion riding was banned in the past also owing to the rise in street crimes, burglaries and terrorism across the city, but no improvements were witnessed. After hearing the preliminary arguments, the court ordered that all respondents file their comments by May 19.
