Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) agreed on Wednesday to import 500 megawatts electricity from India via Kasur border.
A delegation of Indian Water and Power Ministry would soon come to Pakistan in this regard to discuss the matter further, LESCO sources said.
According to the sources, import of 500 MW electricity from India would resolve the load-shedding crisis in Lahore. The project would be completed in six months, the sources added.

  1. This is a good news as power thus arranged will be far cheaper than that from highly expensive and controversial rental power projects.

  2. Not a done deal yet…

Hard to believe India would actually divert power from it's industrial north-west to save Lahore. That area itself is hungry for more power. Not the best act if India's own economic interest is in consideration…

  3. First divert waters from their share, build dam, export electricity to very same country! Well done India and nothing but shame Pakistan govt!

  4. I'm happy if this sorts out our loadshedding problems in the short term. This still shouldn't detract from a long term energy policy based on renewable sources, we should be implementing measures to become self reliant in the future. Unfortunately I don't see that happening with this current government, the best it can come up with at energy conferences is to close the markets early. Ridiculous.

  5. we hv a short fall of 4.5kMWatt … our govt failed to cover this shortfall during last 4 yrs of PPP govt wrt both short term n long term plan nothing hs been done, except the fact they hv made alot of corruption on the name of RPPs … now this 500MW from india is not a solution to the problem

  6. It is all because of ZARDRI and Gilani.
They are creating power shortage for punjab only and all industry is closing. We shold buy and supply to FAISALABAD industry also to deter the PPP move to destry Punjab
