Counsel for Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday said the bench was not above the law and those judges who took suo motu notices were not eligible for hearing them. Talking to reporters outside the Supreme Court, Aitzaz said President Asif Zardari had an international immunity, until he was the president. “Seven judges cannot hear the case but an eight-member bench can”.
He said during the proceedings, Article 10-A came under discussion in the court and he referred to at least 10 verdicts of the court as examples. “I have no objection on any judge but according to the constitution, seven out the bench have no authority to hear the case. I never said that the decision of the court may be declared null and void,” he added. He said President Zardari was an elected head of state and neither Swiss court issued him any notice nor anyone gave application. He said Aafia Siddiqui should be brought back and her trial be held in Pakistan as no country wanted that its citizens to face cases abroad.

  1. The gutless man has no credibility left. He has copletely changed his tune. I wonder how much did he sell out for?

    • No. I don't think so. He is a very cunning man. Look at how he got rid of babar awan. I think he has set his sight on much higer position. Lets see how he handles gillani's case. I think he will oust him also but in a way that he doesn't get the blame. Oh, the webs we weave 🙂

      • AA' next target after Babar Awan's downfall seems to trip down Gilani himself to strengthen his candidature for the top slot in Parliament. Enough material he could conjure up to build up case at CEC of PPPP to pull him & his family down in the so called larger interest of the party. To Zardari, any change in faces does not matter much untill & unless his prime purpose (i.e., survival) is not endangered.

  2. When one is blinded one fails to see the fate of one's associate i e BA, for Babar Awan.infact to borrow a qoute from a British Parlimentarian "both are the two cheeks of the same behind".

  3. Not only seat in Senate, a position in National security council, and his head of women cricket board/team. Perhaps no one what is son is doing and his daughter as well at the expense of poor [people,. In fact he is unfolding his real face

  4. You are right sir, judges are not above law. Only President/prime minister and other ministers of ruling ppp are above law. Lead in corruption and mismanagement and find a big post, even a slot in democratic cabinet of "honest and pious" prime minister Yusaf Raza Gilani.

  5. AA thinks that the constitution is what the Presidency, Law Ministry, PM and he interprets it to be. Some logic by a lawyer who claims to be a constitutional expert. Is this WZ Ahmed and their combined corporate interests talking now?.
