Assigning portfolios to ministers PM’s discretion: Firdous

Federal Information and Broadcasting Minster Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Saturday that assigning portfolios to the federal cabinet is the discretion of prime minister who forms team to better serve public interests. “The prime minister has the power to choose the players of his own choice. But the decision should be in public interest,” said the minister while talking to newsmen after the prize distribution for the Rose Festival arranged by the Pakistan National Rose Society. She said whoever gets the portfolios should strive to provide relief to the people and that any decision made by the leadership will be acceptable to her. The minister stated that she had heard news about a reshuffle, but had not been issued a notification in this regard. To a question, Awan said the unanimous approval of the recommendations by the parliament on the new rules of engagement with the United States is a first step towards national solidarity. She said the government will strive to implement the resolution and that the government will not take any step that may put public interest at stake. Addressing the ceremony, the minister lauded the efforts of the participants who contributed to provide a diversion to the people. She stated that environmental pollution has posed a serious threat to our environment. Dr Firdous said the younger generation has been confined to their computers which takes them away from natural beauty. She also stressing that more festivals should be held to promote awareness among the people. PNRS President Iftikhar Awan said since its establishment in 1988, the society has been holding such festivals annually. He stated that the society has established a rose garden over 4.5 acres where around 12,000 rose bushes are grown. Later, the Information Minister awarded prizes to Khurram Hussain Shah, Kishwar Sultana, Dr Saeed Ahmed, Mehmooda Hashmi for presenting the winning roses. Radio Pakistan got the first prize for overall gardening and second prize for cut flowers, for which the Islamabad Club got first prize and the Rawalpindi CMH third.

  2. Radio Pakistan's lawns are really beautiful. One's mood totally changes after walking through the pavement around the garden, which has over 300 varieties of roses alone. The gardners, headed by Shaukat Ali Bilal, really work hard. They love the flowers and plants like their children. The continue to work in the garden even during the hot summer and freezing cold only to ensure that the plants and flowers face no harm because of the harsh weather. We wish the entire nation work the same way to steer the motherland out of the crises it is facing today. Long live Pakistan.
