Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) spokesperson stated that malfunctioning occurred in Unit No 2 of the under-construction Jinnah Hydropower Project yesterday afternoon reportedly due to thunder and lightning. The unit was on a test run for the last week and was yet to be formally commissioned. The spokesperson said that the Jinnah Hydropower project is being constructed by a Chinese company.
He said that malfunctioning of the unit would inflict no monetary loss to WAPDA or the Government, as the project was still with the contractor, and as such, responsibility of any rectification or replacement whatsoever lies with the contractor as per contractual obligations.
