Kaira defends extension in cabinet

Newly-inducted Federal Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday defended the size of the cabinet, saying ministers get less perks and privileges than an MNA or a senator.
In a special chat with a private TV channel, he said the Parliament has unanimously adopted recommendations on Pak-US ties and if one had any objection, it should have been conveyed in the committee or the Parliament.
Kaira said all political parties, including the government, were involved in preparation of unanimous recommendations. There is no mention of reopening of NATO supply routes through an executive order, he clarified.
The federal minister said if anyone had objection to the reopening of NATO supply, this should have been taken up at the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security.
He dispelled the impression that increasing the size of cabinet would put extra burden on the national exchequer. He said ministers get lower perks and privileges than an MNA or a senator.
Moreover, he said his government’s top priority is to address the problems of unemployment, energy crisis and inflation.
