World number one Novak Djokovic is to play second-ranked Rafael Nadal at Real Madrid’s Bernebeu stadium in a bid to establish a new attendance record for a tennis match, the football club said on Wednesday. “The aim of this exhibition match is to establish a new attendance record of more than 80,000 spectators for a tennis match,” Real said on its website, adding that takings will go towards charitable foundations supported by the club and the players. According to the ATP World Tour website, the current attendance record stands at 35,681 for a match between Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in Brussels in 2010.
Spaniard Nadal, recovering from a knee injury that forced him out of the recent Miami Masters, is a long-time fan of the current leaders of La Liga.
