Misri Shah Police has at last registered a murder case against its ASI and a constable for murdering a 24-year-old electrician, who was shot dead by cops late on Tuesday night after an alleged encounter.
Per details, Naveed Ahmed was gunned down by some policemen deployed at a picket in Shareefabad area shortly after he allegedly tried to escape from the scene when policemen signalled him to stop.
On Tuesday night, following a scuffle with the heirs and relatives of the deceased and with locals of Misri Shah area, police managed getting the body of the deceased into its custody which they later removed to Mayo Hospital morgue for autopsy.
At about noon on Wednesday, the heirs of the deceased received the body of the deceased from the police and planned to lodge massive protests, but local political leaders stepped in to stop them from doing so.
Later on, deceased’s funeral prayer was held at a local mosque located on Circular Road.
Few heirs and close relatives of the deceased, once again got infuriated before the funeral prayers after seeing the behaviour of local police and they started protesting against cops. Some youths also damaged few vehicles of local police. They also tried to attack cops but the elders stopped them from doing so.
However the protest lasted for more than an hour in which protestors chanted slogans against Lahore Police and demanded justice.
Sixteen-year-old Arsalan, who witnessed the mishap, said he saw Naveed coming on his motorcycle. “Naveed was riding his motorcycle fast and when the cops signalled him to stop, he could not manage to stop the bike at once. He only crossed the police picket and was almost stopping when a cop brought out his gun and opened fire on him. Naveed received bullet in his forehead and died instantly. Cops after seeing Naveed dead forcibly stopped a rickshaw driver and were forcing him to take the body to any unknown place when other locals of the area reached the crime scene,” Arsalan said.
Meanwhile, Misri Shah Police, after a brief interrogation and following orders by the Punjab chief minister, registered a murder case under Section 302 of PPC against two policemen of the Muhafiz Squad, including ASI Muhammad Sarwar and a constable Nafees. The police also arrested the accused.
