Iranian ambassador lauds BISP’s efforts for curbing poverty, maintaining transparency

Iranian Ambassador Alireza Hagghighian said on Wednesday, the efforts of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in curbing poverty and serving the poor of the country are highly commendable.
He was speaking during a meeting with BISP Chairwoman Farzana Raja at the BISP Secretariat.
He said the programme has not only ensured transparency in its affairs but also introduced higher standards of service delivery.
The visiting ambassador congratulated Farzana Raja on receiving the Hilal-e-Imtiaz and said the award acknowledged her unprecedented service for the nation and humanity. Hagghighian also invited Raja to visit Iran.
Earlier, Raja briefed the ambassador about various components of the BISP.
She said the endeavours of the BISP are aimed at sustainable poverty reduction from the country and improving the living standards of millions of its beneficiaries.
The chairwoman stated that the transparency and effectiveness of the BISP has been acknowledged at a global level and has set new precedents of service for the poor segments of the society for any country.
Raja also accepted the invitation to visit Iran.
During the meeting, future prospects as well as existing cooperation between both the countries, especially in the social sector also came under detailed discussion.
