3-day int’l judicial conference to begin from Friday

A three-day international judicial conference 2012 will begin from Friday here at the Supreme Court Building. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who is also chairman Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan/National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee will inaugurate the conference.
The conference will be attended by the Foreign Dignitaries, Chief Justices of the Federal Shariat Court, High Courts, Judges of the Superior Courts, District Judiciary, Attorney General for Pakistan, Advocates General, Members of the Supreme Court/High Court Bar Associations, Eminent Lawyers/ Scholars, members of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.
Chief Justice of Maldives, Senior Puisne Judge, Supreme Court of India, Vice President and Judge Rapporteur of Turkish Constitutional Court, Turkey and other prominent luminaries, researchers and jurists from around the world i.e. Australia, UK, England, USA etc. are expected to participate in the conference.
According to the office of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, the conference will continue till April 15 and the inaugural ceremony will be held on Friday in the Supreme Court Building.
On second day of the conference, the participants will assemble in eight different thematic groups with specified topics including, “Role of Judiciary in Promotion of a Culture of Tolerance”, “Terrorism and Money Laundering”, “The Role of Judiciary in Good governance”, “Alternate Dispute Resolution and International Arbitration”, “Judicial Education”, “Parental Child Abduction and Transnational Jurisdiction”, “Environmental Law and Public Interest Litigation” and “Gender Bias and Issues of Judicial Empathy”.
During the session, papers will be presented by different speakers as different topics have already been assigned to them. On the third day, besides others events a special event of book launching ceremony of a book “Counter-Terrorism International Law and Practice” will be held. The book has been edited by Ana Maria Salinas De Frlas, Katja Lh Samuel and Nigel D White and published by Oxford University Press.
Rescue operation at Gayari sector continues: Despite weather hazards, rescue operation at Gayari Sector continues at five priority points identified with the help of SPD team employed along with plant equipment, Army Search and Rescue Teams. A 450 meters long access track has been developed on the avalanche to access the priority points.Work on another access track has also been started to widen search perimeter,said an ISPR press release on Wednesday.
Mainly Plant equipment is employed at two points. The work is in progress at rapid speed on both points. At the work on other three points mainly being done with the help of infantry troops who resort to manual digging with some assistance from plant equipment where required. A bulldozer has been employed to restore the water channel, which has been blocked due to avalanche.So far two exits are available with 20 and 15 cusecs discharge.Efforts are in hand to enhance same with the help of plant equipment.
