Sports Festival may get entry into Guinness World Record

The Sports Board Punjab with an attempt to get Punjab Sports Festival 2012 entry into the Guinness Book of World Record will also attempt another record of singing of national anthem with 20,000 people when the previous record is of 15,000 people.
Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood has on Tuesday announced to apply the Punjab Sports Festival 2012 for entry into the Guinness Book of World Record. “We will go for another record of singing national anthem when the officials of Guinness Book of World Record visit the National Hockey Stadium in the coming days.
The historical festival gained popularity as around 1.25 million athletes took part in the event which he believes was the biggest ever participation in the world.
“There are countries with a population of more than one billion and even some countries have 300 million population but none of those have organize such a big participation sports event,” he maintained.
He appreciated the efforts of the Sports Board Punjab’s employees and the co-operation of media. “In order to acknowledge their efforts in conducting such a successful event, DG Sports Punjab Usman Anwar has decided to award honorarium to all the employees from grade 1 to 18 amounting Rs 2.28 million.
“Sports Board Punjab has also decided to establish the media center in order to prompt news execution,” he said. “We will also conduct a mega sports event in the upcoming September or October among all provinces,” he added.
Director General Usman Anwar further said that the expenditure of Sports Festival 2012 was carried out by the sponsorship. He further said: “We are working on introducing more projects in the upcoming months.”
He further said that in the coming National Games Punjab will showcase its talented players to other provinces. “While in summer holidays we would hold competitions in all the affiliated sports of the department to involve all the students of the in different sports and spread the colours of Punjab in the country,” he maintained.
