Punjab Environment Secretary Saeed Iqbal Walah has conducted surprise visits of Shalimar and Children hospitals and instructed the hospital’s management to ensure the implementation of Hospital Waste Management Rules at any cost. Walah was accompanied by other officials of the Environment Department. Talking to hospital’s management, Walah urged them to strictly implement the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2005, and ensure the proper incineration of risk waste like infectious waste, pathological waste, sharps pharmaceutical waste, genotoxic waste, chemical waste and radioactive waste. He also directed the management of hospitals to make sure that cutting or breaking of all disposal medical equipments and supplies including the syringes, needles, plastic biottels, drips and infusion bags to make them non-reusable. He also asked the Children’s Hospital MS to start the other incinerators on immediate basis.
