The residents of the federal capital have rejected prolonged energy outages in the city following the announcement by the prime minister of conducting equal load shedding across the country. The residents of Islamabad have been seriously perturbed by 8 to 12 hours of load shedding, a surprising reaction considering that the entire province of Punjab had been up in flames over load shedding that had crossed 20 hours a day in recent weeks. Traders of Islamabad also rejected decisions taken in the second energy conference and threatened to launch a civil disobedience drive if the proposed steps were imposed.
“The decisions are political, unilateral and contrary to the ground realities while stakeholders have not been taken into confidence,” said Malik Sohail, vice president of National Traders Alliance. Speaking at a hurriedly called meeting in Blue Area, he said traders would not accept the outcome of the controversial conference which amounted to economic murder of the reeling trading community.
