The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected pleas seeking meeting of two Hindu girls, who had allegedly been forced to convert to Islam, with their parents or husbands. The court observed that both girls should be allowed to make the decision regarding theie future with their own free will adding that the matter will be taken up on April 18. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took the two applications, seeking permission for holding meetings with the Hindu girls in a shelter home in Karachi. Naveed Shah, the husband of Rinkle Kumari, moved an application through his counsel Mujeeb Peerzada, with a request to allow him to meet Rinkle. Likewise, Dr Ramesh, father of the other girl Dr Lata, also submitted plea through his counsel Nasir Mangle asking to meet his daughter at the shelter home in Karachi. During the hearing, Peerzada said the police were not allowing his client to meet his wife (Rinkle). He said his client was also not even permitted to give clothes to his wife. “You must be aware that she (Rinkle) wanted to go with her mother on the last date of hearing so let her think about her future until the next date of hearing,” the chief justice said. The court, however, asked the counsel to give the clothes to the Sindh advocate general to give to the girl. Mangle also requested to allow his client with her daughter but the court declined his plea as well.
