Wapda to hold National Women’s Cycling in May

The 10th National Women Cycling Championship will be convened from May 10 to 13 at the Lahore’s Cycling Velodrome.
Syed Azhar Ali Shah, Secretary General Pakistan Cycling Federation informed that all the affiliated units of PCF including Army, WAPDA, Railway, Sui Southern Gas Company, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtoonkuah and FATA will field their women cyclists in the championship which will be hosted by WAPDA.
During the championship One km time trial, One km Sprint, Team Pursuit, Individual Pursuit, Elimination, 20 kms individual road time trial, 30 kms team time trial and 50 kms Scratch road race.
He further informed that prior to the women championship, the 1st Inter-Provincial Women Cycling Championship will be held at Peshawar from May 7 to 8. The championship will be organized by Khyber Pakhtoonkuah Cycling Association in which women teams from all the four provinces, FATA and Islamabad will take part to compete in 15 kms individual time trial, 20 kms team time trial, 30 kms scratch road race.
Azhar Ali Shah informed that in October 2012 KP Cycling Association will organize the International Mountain Bike race at Kaghan in collaboration with Kaghan Memorial Trust for which eight International teams have confirmed to participate, till date.
Regarding PCF’s former Secretary Idris Haider Khawaja’s claim for organizing Women Cycling Championship in which according to him team from Afghanistan will also participate, Azhar Shah stated that any event in which foreign teams take part cannot be called a national event. He further explained that the socalled Afghan team which took part in an earlier event organized by Idris Haider Khawaja was not an affiliated team of Afghan Cycling Federation. Kh Idris is in practice of bogus claims since September 24, 2011 when he lost his position in PCF Election held under the supervision of POA, Azhar Shah added.
