The Riphah Youth Festival 2012, organised by the Riphah International University (RIU) began at its Rawalpindi and Islamabad campuses on Tuesday to bring together people from all walks of life, including students, teachers, parents and multinational companies.
This is the second youth festival organised by the university and will continue up to April 14. The programmes designed for the youth festival include games, competitions, a poster exhibition and a social evening.
Students of various faculties of the Riphah University and other educational institutions of Rawalpindi, Islamabad and other cities are taking part in the contests that include debates and Qirat and Naat competitions.
RIU Pro-Chancellor Hassan Muhammad Khan formally opened the festival during a colourful ceremony held at the main campus of the university.
Speaking on the occasion he said such activities are an essential part of the university’s curriculum to help promote a sense of healthy competition among the youth. He lauded the efforts of the university’s faculty members, the management and students for organising the event.
RIU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Anis Ahmad said the RIU is imparting professional education with the inculcation of Islamic ethical values. He advised the students taking part in various games and competitions, to follow ethical values in their co-curricular activities.
The games and competitions for female students are being held at the Al-Mizan campus in Rawalpindi while those for the male students are being held at the main campus in Islamabad.
In the Qirat competition held on Tuesday, Qaisar Muhammad of the International Islamic University Islamabad got the first position among the male participants. RIU’s Zulaqarnain Haider stood second, while Syed Rehan Bukhari stood third. In the Naat competition, Hafiz Arsalan of the RIU stood first, while Muhammad Faisal Asif of Hamdard University got the second position and Syed Rehan Bukhari of the RIU was declared third.
Among female participants, Maira Hassan Kiyani of the RIU got the first prize in calligraphy while Sabahat Naz and Maria Sajid of the same university got second and third prizes respectively.
In the Naat competition, Zikra of the RIU stood first, while Wajiha of the same university obtained the second position. Saba Shokut of the Fauji Foundation Medical College was declared third. In the Qirat competition, Mubashira Yaseen of the RIU stood first, while Zikra Zulfiqar and Saira Hira of the same university obtained second and third positions respectively.
