Kashmiris welcome Zardari-Singh meeting

Cautiously welcoming the meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Hurriyat Conference-M Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said both countries needed to move forward to settle the six-decade-old Kashmir issue. “We have seen leaders and policymakers of both the countries coming together on the table so many times, but it is unfortunate that they haven’t been able to move an inch forward on Kashmir issue,” Farooq told KNS, adding that strengthening trade or issues like Sir Creek were not sufficient to build the trust between the two neighbouring countries. “We don’t need events.
There must be initiation of a process which could lead us to settlement,” the Hurriyat chairman said. Expressing willingness to help both countries in their efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz told KNS that there was a need to bring a change in mindset across the board. “Bilawal Bhutto’s meeting Rahul Ghandi should be taken as a precursor of a need to change the mindsets.”
