Minister in-charge for National Harmony Dr Paul Bhatti on Monday called a meeting of prominent educationists from Christian community and held consultations for improving the literacy rate in the country.
“In a bid to improve the socio-economic status of the marginalised class of the society, I am trying my level best to take all possible steps in this regard and create an opportunity for the oppressed class to get education for better future,” Dr Paul Bhatti said. Dr Paul formed a committee of educationists, which will make recommendations to launch Shahbaz Bhatti Education Complex (SBEC) in the capital city of Islamabad. The SBEC will impart technical education to all the deserving people irrespective of faith in order to ameliorate their economic conditions. FC College Lahore Principal Professor Dr Christy Munir will head the seven-member committee. Ex-educationist Najmi Saleem, All Pakistan Minorities Alliance MPA Jeorge Paul, and brother Patras of St Marry School Rawalpindi are also the members of the committee.
“An interfaith complex will also be constructed in the SBEC which will contain worship places of all faiths to promote interfaith relationship and dialogue in an effort to provide opportunity to people of different religions to sit together and understand each other,” he said. He said the committee would assist him to launch future plans of education and also fix criteria for granting scholarships to deserving students for their enrollment in higher education institutions and universities in the developed countries.
