The Punjab University College of Information Technology is organising a job fair today (Saturday), to provide employment opportunities to its IT students. Over 20 national and multi-national companies will set up their stalls, interview students and collect their resumes. Like the previous year, outstanding candidates will be offered jobs on the spot. IT companies will also provide career counseling to students. The job fair will continue from 9 am to 5 pm. PU emphasises global textile standards, requirements: The Textile Engineering and Technology Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textile Industry, the Textile Testing International (TTI) and the University of Management and Technology (UMT), conducted a short course on the ‘Importance of Global Textile Standards and Compliance Requirements’. The course was attended by large number of people from the textile industry, working at the middle and senior management levels and linked with textile products’ testing.
The speakers, including TTI CEO Mr Hamid Lateef, Senior Manager Ali Ashraf, UMT Institute of Textile and Industrial Sciences Director Dr Nabeel Amin, focused on textile testing and its compliance with international standards. The participants highly appreciated the standard of presentation and the Punjab University’s initiative to launch the textile technology discipline in the university. Garment City Lahore Chairman and Angora Textile limited CEO Awais Mazhar addressed the participants and distributed certificates among them. He appreciated the efforts of the Punjab University for launching a degree course in the chemical processing of textiles and stressed the need for highly trained and practically oriented graduates required for textile processing.
Hamdard Foundation, School organise health conference: In order to commemorate World Health Day 2012, Hamdard Public School and Hamdard Foundation Pakistan organised 21st international children’s health conference with the theme of “Aging and Health” on Friday at a local hotel here in the city.
University of the Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Dr Malik Hussain Mubbashar presided over the conference while Punjab Parliamentary Secretary of Health Dr Saeed Elahi was the chief guest. Dr Babar Alam, operations officer from world health organisation was also present as Guest of Honour on the occasion. The conference was attended by foreign delegates from Japan, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia and Bangladesh as well as participants from all over the country, who shared their views on healthy aging and how healthy life styles results in good quality of life in old age. Dr Babar Alam from WHO while introducing this year’s theme and slogan “Good health adds life to years” informed the audience that the number of people over age 60 had doubled since 1980 and it was expected that by 2050, the number of people over 80 years of age will increase four times reaching a figure of 395 million all over the world. He also shared that after five years, the people above 65 years of age will outnumber children less than five years of age. He stressed on the need of improvement of life styles in earlier ages and availability of social security nets for older people.
Earlier, Dr Saeed EIlahi also shared that older people are a valued resource for our society and they should be cherished and loved. He said we should take care of our elders and support their active participation in daily life.
