Nawaz blames military intervention for country’s problems

Coming hard on military dictators who derailed the democratic process from time to time, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif Friday held the military rulers responsible for the existing problems of the country, particularly economic disorder, terrorism, militancy and the deteriorating law and order.
“The military dictators did nothing except disintegrating the nation, particularly the political forces and its workers,” Nawaz remarked while addressing a well-attended PML-N gathering at Pearl Continental Hotel Peshawar on Friday.
The gathering was hosted by former federal minister and ex-provincial president of PML-Q Engineer Amir Muqam.
At the outset of the PML-N gathering, Engineer Amir Muqam announced joining the PML-N along with his supporters from all over the province. MPAs Sardar Sana Ullah Miankhel, Rishad Khan and Fazal Ullah were prominent amongst them.
After welcoming Muqam and his colleagues to the party, Nawaz focused almost all of his speech on the outcomes of dictatorial regimes, his previous PML-N government’s performance and achievements and a rejoinder to President Asif Ali Zardari.
However, he also expressed severe concern over US government’s decision of announcing bounty on Lashkar-e-Tayyaba founder Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.
“Such act on the part of the US government is an expression of no confidence in your (PM Gilani’s) government,” Nawaz remarked while diverting attention of the audience towards his recent telephonic conversation with Gilani.
“I told Gilani that Hafiz Saeed was a respectable citizen of the country and the US must hand over details of cases registered against him.” He believed that such type of acts on the part of the US government were illegitimate and unrealistic.
Advocating for the democratic process, Nawaz even termed the 1985 party-less polls an act of “disintegrating the nation and political forces”.
Strange when Nawaz had not only backed those elections but even became the Punjab chief minister after them.
Nawaz even held military dictators responsible for disintegration of Pakistan in 1971. “Only for power, they ignored sacrifices rendered by people of former East Pakistan in the independence movement.” He alleged that toppling of his party’s government in 1999 not only led to halting of every sort of development, uplift of economic and investment process but even led to existing terrorism and militancy which had cost life to thousands of innocent people.
In a rejoinder to President Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz said nothing in reaction, but accused the PPP government of breaking all previous records of corruption and malpractices.
“The present government did nothing in the last four years, except fuelling tension and crises.” He appreciated Punjab government for distribution of laptops among students and questioned the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab governments in this respect.

  1. He blames everything on military dictators forgetting that he himself is the product of a military dictator. I have never ever in my life seen a public figure so scared of somebody. He really needs counseling to get over his fear of thr Generals. He is not commander-in-chief material as long as he sees army as a threat and is afraid of anybody in uniform.

  2. Nawaz is such a double dealer that neither military or people of Pakistan can trust him. And his lies and trachery in terms of foreign policy were legendary…… who can forget the Kargil betrayal immidiately following the India-Pak bus service and all the talk about peace and brotherhood with Atal bihari…..And guess what he blamed the army for the insurgency.

  3. The fundamental question is why does Nawaz Sharif not bring a treason case against Musharraf? Is there an arrangement?

  5. Well said by a man who was the Chief Minister of Punjab when General Zia was president.

  6. If he thinks that the army is the root cause of all the problems then why did his daughter MARRYAM NAWAZ run away from home and marry his ADC Capt. safdar? He could not run his own household and he wants us to believe that he can run the country? There are no morals in this family.
