JUP leader shot dead in Quetta

Unidentified armed assailants shot dead a leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) in Quetta on Friday. Police officials said Maulana Mohammad Qasim, the head cleric of main Noorani mosque, was heading to the mosque on Sariab Road to lead the Friday prayers when armed persons opened indiscriminate fire on him. As a result, he received critical wounds and was being shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta when he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said investigation into the killing was underway to ascertain the motive behind the killing. However, no arrest has been made in this connection so far. The deceased was said to be related to the leader of JUP Maulana Abdul Qadoos Sasoli.
