Call to check waywardness among youth

The annual function of Bazm-e-Kiran, an organisation engaged in fighting waywardness in the society, was held at the Defence Central Library.
A DHA statement issued on Friday said that the speakers highlighted the spreading trend of waywardness in the youth, which is eroding the vitals of the society, and suggested ways and means for countering the menace effectively.
Khalidul Aziz, honorary secretary general of the organisation, shed light on the salient aims and objectives of the Bazm-e-Kiran Society, which included efforts to discourage materialism, strengthen family value system with emphasis on respect for elders and women, and counter the onslaught of the Western culture that is leading to the increasing tendency of excessive smoking, alcoholism and drug culture among the youth.
Col (retd) Ather Ali Khan, the convener of Bazm-e-Kiran, delineated the details of the efforts made by the Society to prevent waywardness in the youth, which included interaction of the Society members with young offenders in the Juvenile Jail and a number of other measures for their welfare and rehabilitation.
The president of the organisation, Zafar Iqbal, said that rehabilitation of youngsters who, unfortunately, get involved in bad habits is of immense importance for developing a peaceful and progressive society.
He added that Bazm-e-Kiran is planning to eradicate street crimes through the establishment of a Skill Development Facility.
He said that a technical workshop for the juvenile is already functioning in this regard for the past two years.
The keynote speaker, Lt Gen (retd) Moinuddin Haider, highly appreciated in his speech the noble aims and objectives of the organisation.
He said that waywardness in the society is on the rise, mainly due to the ill effects of the electronic and print media.
He added that for the benefit of the young offenders, the organisation has done an excellent job by introducing technical training in the children’s jail named as Young Offenders Industrial School, which enables the young offenders to become technicians and earn a decent livelihood as a part of their rehabilitation in the society.
Justice Haziqul Khari emphasised the fact that the future of a nation lies in the upbringing of its younger generation.
He applauded the organisation’s efforts in providing technical training workshops in the Juvenile Jail.
Sardar M Yaseen Malik highlighted the problems of waywardness in the society, control over which is a challenging and daunting task.
