The Shadman Police on Thursday registered a case against two constables, including a driver of Punjab Police’s MT Department and a staffer of Civil Defence, for harassing and demanding ransom from heirs of two girls.
The girls were allegedly kidnapped by unidentified kidnappers from Gulberg College for Women, but later recovered from a local hotel in Shadman police precincts along with their paramours on Monday. A case number 179/12 was registered by Shadman Police on the complaint of paternal uncle of two girls namely Mian Ishaaq after DIG Major (r) Mubashirullah completed initial inquiry into the matter on orders of Punjab chief minister.
The DIG during course of investigation also suspended a muharrar of Shadman police station, Mehboob. DIG Major (r) Mubashirullah told Pakistan Today that the Punjab chief minister had ordered an inquiry after the issue was reported by the media.
He said the two girls, Rabia and Afshan, were cousins. Rabia was a resident of Nishtar Colony while Afshan belonged to Sharaqpur. He said Afshan came to the city to meet her relatives and on the day of the incident, she went along Rabia. According to the DIG, Afshan had connections with Yasir, a resident of Sharaqpur.
He said Afshan and Yasir decided to meet and got Rabia involved in the matter as well. He said Yasir and his friend reached Lahore and they all met at a local park. Mubashir said after spending a few hours in a local park, they went straight to a hotel where they hired two rooms on rent after paying Rs 1,200 for each. He said a reporter of a local television channel informed police that the girls and boys were in an immoral state, after which the Shadman SHO raided the hotel and arrested Rabia, Afshan, Yasir and Yasir’s friend. To a query, the DIG rejected reports regarding the death of an uncle of the two girls due to heart attack after the arrest of the girls by Shadman police.
