The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has filed a petition with the Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) requesting to conduct election of NA-42 constituency, South Waziristan Agency, at alternative place owing to security concerns, officials said.
Since the 2008 general elections, the NA-42 seat has been lying vacant owning to the law and order situation of the tribal areas. The people of the concerned constituency have lodged complaints with the ECP for holding the election so that they can choose their representative.
The PTI chairman along with Dost Muhammad Khan filed the petition before the ECP, seeking an order for holding the polling in the upcoming general elections of NA-42, South Waziristan, in the neighbouring areas and other areas like Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Tarnol (Islamabad), Rawalpindi, Taxila, Karachi (Sohrab Goth, Landhi, Sultanabad).
Most of the people of South Waziristan are temporarily living in large numbers in different areas, and keeping in view the security measures, necessary and convenient arrangements may be made for this purpose, the petition stated.
The petitioners also referred to similar arrangements already made for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Rawalpindi and for the people of Northern Areas in Karachi.
