CJ orders filing of FIR against 3 ministers

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Thursday sought progress report in the probe of mutilated bodies and also ordered an FIR to be filed against three ministers as their names were being mentioned in the statement submitted by Interior Minister Balochistan Mir Zafrullah Zehri.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by the chief justice and comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Pervez heard the constitutional petition filed by Balochistan Bar Association regarding poor law and order situation here at Supreme Court Quetta Registry.
A hearing on the security situation of the province was underway in the Supreme Court, Quetta Branch Registry in Balochistan, in which Provincial Interior Minister Balochistan, Mir Zafarullah Zehri’s written statement was presented in the court.
The statement contained information about the alleged involvement of provincial ministers in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom.
Based on the statement, the Chief Justice ordered an FIR to be filed against the three ministers whose names were mentioned in the statement and asked for evidence pertaining to the same.
On the occasion, President of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHBA) Zahoor Shahwani presented a record of Provincial Minister Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sadiq Imrani’s statement in the assembly in which it was said that security agencies were killing the people.
Commenting on the statement which was filed two months ago, The chief justice addressed the Interior Secretary Naseebullah Bazai asking what he had done in this regard since then.
Bazai replied that in the past three years, 349 bodies have been found whereas in the last year, there have been 203 instances of target killings.
Justice Tariq Pervez said that no security guard wearing plain clothes was allowed to roam around carrying weapons.
The court observed that Frontier Constabulary is being accused in the matter, therefore, the presence of Attorney General is necessary.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the CJ told Secretary Interior that now we cannot proceed under fear you should decide whether you like your job or the national prestige.
Further in his remarks, the CJ said that 95 percent of the investigations conducted by the police fail.
The chief justice summoned the Attorney General on Friday in the Balochistan High Court. The court ordered the arrest of persons involved in the killing of 349 people. The chief justice asked the police and Levies Forces to register cases against those involved.
The Supreme Court also asked Balochistan Chief Secretary Ahmed Bux Lehri to pay compensation money to the families of the victims.

  1. Even when the CJ has directed to file FIRs, the media is still not revealing/divulging the names of the Ministers involved in kidnapping. If it was some poor man or law abiding organization/individual, the media would have dressed him down before confirmation.That goes for independent media
