Gilani, FC IG narrowly escape disaster

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, several of his cabinet ministers as well as the inspector general of the Frontier Constabulary (FC), Maj Gen Nadir Zeb, narrowly escaped a disaster when their aircraft made emergency landings in two separate incidents on Tuesday.
According to officials, a special aircraft carrying PM Gilani and several federal ministers made an emergency landing shortly after taking off from an airbase in Rawalpindi. The aircraft was bound for Sukkur to participate in special events being held to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The aircraft returned to Chaklala airbase shortly after taking off and made an emergency landing after developing some technical problems. According to officials, a technical fault occurred in the left engine of the plane after three minutes of taking off. The exact nature of the technical problems could not be immediately ascertained, they said. In a separate incident, General Nadir Zeb and several other military personnel had a narrow escape when a military helicopter made an emergency landing after developing technical problems in Ghalanai, Mohmand Agency.
