The Foundation for Rehabilitation and Education of Slow Children (FRESH) officially launched an awareness campaign about slow learners on the banner of Pakistan Association for Difficulties in Learning (PADIL) at the Green Meadows School in Shadman.
Renowned journalist Arif Nizami was chief guest along with former Education Minister Punjab Mian Imran Masood and other notable businessmen, senior bureaucrats and a good number of students from various leading institutions.
PADIL is a group of gurus idealizing idiosyncrasy as a way forward to the next generation but still agree to disagree on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Dyslexia among children. Ashba Kamran is the moving spirit behind the idea of PADIL along with Qazi Humayun Farid as president of the association.
Speaking on the occasion, Nizami expressed the hope that PADIL would have a prosperous future in changing the mindset of Pakistanis on learning disabilities among children. He said the mainstream newspapers and TV channels should also focus on development journalism by highlighting such issues instead of simply focusing on political shows. Also, he said, there is a need to engage politicians and policymakers to ensure separate allocations of funds for slow learners of society.
He said the distribution of Rs4 billion laptops among students by taking out Rs2 billion out of the education funds was not a service to the education sector. Instead, he said, social workers such as, Ashba Kamran, were doing a real service to the education sector which needed to be acknowledged and appreciated.
