Minister of State for National Harmony Akram Masih Gill and Senator Mushahid Hussain, Secretary General of PML (Q), here Tuesday distributed cheques of Rs 5,000 each among 150 members of the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.
The grant was given to the deserving members for celebrating the religious festival of Christians in a befitting manner. Speaking on the occasion, Akram Masih Gill said that festivals of minorities are celebrated officially by the government throughout the year to follow the true ethical values and in this regard, the upcoming festival of Easter will also be celebrated at higher level.
“Government is committed for uplift of minorities socially by their economic empowerment and removing discriminatory actions against the non-Muslims aimed at providing them with equal opportunities of development,” he said. He mentioned the steps taken by the government for the minorities in Pakistan including reservation of 4 seats for minorities in Senate, 5 percent quota in government jobs and August 11 declared as minority day.
Mushahid Hussain said that PML(Q) always stood for the rights of minorities and announced scholarships for the deserving students of minorities.
The religious festivals of minorities are celebrated regularly at party level, he added. Members of Christian community including political leaders were present on the occasion.
