Dengue mosquitos are under control, says CM’s special assistant

Punjab Chief Minister Special Assistant for Health Salman Rafique has directed the officers of all the departments concerned, including the health department, to take measures for accelerating the existing the pace of surveillance at the union council level for curbing the breeding of the dengue mosquito.
He was presiding over a cabinet committee meeting for reviewing the implementation of the steps that need to be taken for the eradication of dengue at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Monday. Provincial Planning and Development Minister Abdul Ghafoor, elected representatives from Lahore, secretaries and additional secretaries of the health, environment, information and other departments attended the meeting.
The officers briefed about performance of their respective departments with regard to the eradication of dengue.
The assembly members pointed out garbage dumps in various areas of the city, on which Rafique directed the Lahore commissioner to take immediate steps for removing the garbage and draining out any standing water.
Rafique, while expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the departments concerned, said due to an increase in public awareness about dengue and the coordinated efforts of all the government, the dengue situation is under control.
Dengue larvae have been reported at a very few places, he added.
He stressed on the officers not to show any negligence in fighting dengue. He said due to the steps taken by the government and active public participation, dengue will soon be eliminated.
The next meeting of the cabinet committee will be held on Wednesday, April 04.
CCPO directs preventative steps be taken against dengue: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Ahmed Raza Tahir has directed that cleanliness be maintained in police stations to prevent the spread of the dengue virus.
In his order, CCPO Tahir ordered taking all possible preventive measures in all the sections of the Lahore Police. In his directive, the CCPO has suggested that the police stations be fumigated at least twice a week.
He further directed that all the utensils, drums, water tanks and other items, which contain water, be properly covered, whereas water in the room coolers, should be drained.
The CCPO also directed the use of coils and mats and ensuring that water does not collect around police residences. He also advised that if police officers should catch the disease, they would get free treatment at the government hospitals.
