James Bond’s latest assignment: Opening the Olympic Games. Daniel Craig has reportedly agreed to shoot an introduction for the London 2012 games as 007, following a personal invitation from Queen Elizabeth II. According to Britain’s The Sun, Craig, director Danny Boyle (‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ ‘Trainspotting’) and a film crew were given “unprecedented access” to the monarch’s private rooms during the shoot. In the short film, titled ‘The Arrival,’ Bond reportedly arrives at Buckingham Palace to get his instructions before being taken by helicopter to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, East London, where he will parachute into the arena. The tabloid reports that the 85-year-old queen may make a cameo in the short, but the palace is keeping the details under wraps. ‘The Arrival’ will be reportedly shown inside the Olympic stadium and to viewers at home when the London games kick off on July 27. The collaboration is significant for both the monarch and the fictional British superspy – 2012 is the year of the queen’s Diamond Jubilee (marking her 60 years on the throne) and also the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films.
