President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated the newly-elected All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) President Sarmad Ali. Through a statement issued on Sunday, Zardari also congratulated the newly-elected General Secretary Masood Hamid and the newly-elected Executive Committee of the APNS. In his congratulatory message, the president said that the government believes in the independence of the media and has never imposed any restriction on them. Highlighting the importance of the APNS in the promotion and protection of journalism, he assured that the government would take all possible measures to ensure all facilities to the journalist community. He expressed hope that the APNS would work hard to address the issues of the journalists. Sindh Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Sharmila Faruqui also felicitated the newly-elected APNS office-bearers. In a statement, she congratulated the APNS president, general secretary and other office-bearers, including Mehtab Khan and Rameeza Majeed Nizami. Faruqui expressed confidence that the newly-elected APNS office-bearers would continue to play their role in the promotion of journalistic values as well as democracy in the country. She also assured her full cooperation to the new office-bearers.
