For the third day in a week, citizens spent the day confined to their houses on a mourning call from a political party as all routine and commercial activities were severely hampered in the metropolis on Saturday.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had announced a day of mourning over the killing of its three sympathisers late Friday night. At least nine people have been gunned down during the past 24 hours. All educational institutions remained closed while public transport was thin on the roads.
The DIG West, Imran Yaqoob, suspended four policemen for not reacting swiftly after the killing of the three men near Banaras Flyover. The policemen were arrested and a case was registered against them.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad called an emergency meeting at the Governor’s House to review the law and order situation, where Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan briefed the participants. Ordering the home minister to utilise all resources to curb targeted killings, Ebad directed all DIGs to hold meetings with representatives of their concerned zones.
He also requested the political parties to honour code of conduct which they had signed for maintenance of the law and order situation.
The governor also directed the police officials to increase security at banks, markets and commercial centres and install CCTV cameras. The Karachi commissioner was ordered to establish Emergency Response Units under the flyovers with the help of police, Rangers and health department for quick response in any emergency. The funeral prayers of three ANP activists and three MQM supporters were held separately. MQM Liaquatabad sector supporters Wasim and Hassan were buried in the Paposh Nagar graveyard, whereas MQM Orangi Town sector 120 supporter Sami Kamal was buried in Orangi Town 11½ graveyard. The funerals were attended by MQM office-bearers and a large number of party activists.
Funeral prayer of ANP’s Ashiq Hussain was offered in Baldia Town No 9, and that of ANP Sindh Council member Hidayatullah Mehsud was offered in Kunwari Colony at the Manghopir Road. The funeral was attended by ANP’s provincial minister Amir Nawab Khan and a large number of party activists. The funeral prayer of ANP’s Latifullah was held in Maskin Gali of City Railway Colony. MQM Coordination Committee stated that the ANP was hell-bent on subverting peace and order in Karachi by killing innocent Mohajirs and resorting to blatant terrorism. The committee warned that they would not be subjugated by any form of terrorism, and would not allow the reign of terror and crime to descend over Karachi. Later in the evening, the city limped towards normalcy following MQM chief Altaf Hussian’s request to resume business. Commercial activities were partially restored in some parts of the city.
Count Dracula Altaf Hussain had blood to suck out of those who died in last few days spree of killing at the hands of thugs. You will have noted that Count Dracula needs blood to keep him alive every 2 to 3 months. I wonder how such person is staying in London under the protection of the British government knowing his murderous activities.
The media in Pakistan though appear independent but utterly servile as far as MQM is concerned. The media is largely to blame for providing its direct or indirect support to MQM. Some of the anchors of private TV channels are clearly supportive of MQM and in chat programmes they are absolutely dishonest when they try to project MQM as a national party but undoubtedly is an ethnic, fascist and a terrorist party.
Unbiased media and political freedom are two basic ingredient needed to cook peace recipe for our beloved Pakistan. MQM is one of the foremost organization that has just 'GOT TO GO' for the sake of not just regional but also national peace.
I agree MQM has @GOT TO GO'. If analysed without any prejudices MQM supremo undoubtedly can be categorised as a criminal and should be tried of war crimes or crimes against humanity. This despicable, megalomaniac, self aggrandised third rate politician infact a terrorist by any definition is stretching the tolerance of people to the limit. He is a vile, dangerous so called politician who derives pleasure from the deaths of citizens of the city he claims to be champion of. That is why I call him Count Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.
