An Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh Council member was gunned down by two unidentified culprits on the Manghopir Road, Pakistan Today learnt on Friday.
According to reports, unidentified gunmen shot and injured ANP’s Hidayatullah Mehsud on the Manghopir Road.
Mehsud was immediately taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Police said that Mehsud was not a victim of targeted killing, but he was murdered by two men during a clash at a liquor store.
ANP Sindh Information Secretary Pir Riaz Gul condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
As the news of Mehsud’s murder broke, denizens of Karachi left for their destinations at once, but they were forced to endure massive traffic jams in old city areas.
Already distraught by the poor law and order situation in the metropolitan, the people of the city were further distressed when they were stuck in gridlocks at major roads for long hours. Vehicles were also seen abandoned on the MA Jinnah Road, the Shahrah-e-Faisal and the University Road.
Being stuck in the traffic jam for several hours, many motorists at the main University Road near Hassan Square burned up all their fuel, without even moving an inch further.
The bumper-to-bumper situation was witnessed on almost all major arteries across the city, including the Shahrah-e-Faisal, from the PIDC to the airport, the MA Jinnah Road, the Abdullah Haroon Road, the Empress Market, the Hassan Square and the main University Road.
CLASH IN QASBA: Two men were killed and another wounded in an armed clash between two groups in Qasba Colony.
Police said that three people were critically injured in an incident of cross firing between two groups in Qasba Colony.
They said that two of the wounded men were identified as Irfan, 28, and Ashiq Afghani, 35, whereas another injured man could not be identified.
Irfan and Afghani were declared dead upon arrival at the Sindh Government Qatar Hospital and the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, respectively.
Police sources said that Afghani had been arrested by the law enforcers in the past and he had also been nominated in a number of murder cases. According to reports, Pakistan Rangers-Sindh and Frontier Constabulary personnel reached the area to bring the situation under control, whereas they also detained more than a dozen suspects during search operations.
