IHC stays extension of NESCOM retired officers

The Islamabad High Court on Friday stopped the Ministry of Defense from giving extension to the retired officers of National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM). Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan was hearing the case filed by some junior employees of NESCOM through their counsel, Advocate Raja Saifur Rehman.
Raja submitted before the court that the Supreme Court in its judgment on Hajj corruption case had held that no officer would be given extension after the age of retirement because it blocked the promotion of junior officers who had to keep on waiting for their promotions.
The petitioners quoted the defence secretary, the National Command Authority (NCA) DG, the NESCOM chairman and others as respondents. The counsel contended that the NESCOM management, in violation of the apex court judgment, had prepared a summary of retired officers to grant them extensions after their age of superannuation, He added 23 officers were already working against permanent posts on contract at the ESCOMand after their retirement. He also named the officers who were to be granted extensions after their age of superannuation. They are: M Irfan Burney, Anwar Muzaffar, Amjad Jamal Ghouri, Col Ruhullah Malik, Anees Baig, Col Nisar, M Aslam Chaudhry, M Arshad Mahmood, Mumtaz Ali Khan, Sohail-ur-Rehman and Col Khalid Maqbool.
He prayed to the court to stay the extension of all retired officers and to start contempt proceedings against the NESCOM management for ignoring the SC judgment in the said matter.
