CDA spring flower show kicks off

The 30th Annual Spring Flower and Vegetable Show 2012, organised by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), kicked off here at Rose and Jasmine Garden on Friday. CDA Chairman Engineer Farkhand Iqbal inaugurated the event while representatives of various public and private sectors were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Farkhand Iqbal said that flowers were the integral part of our life and every effort would be made to promote the culture of flowers in the city.
He said, “This year we have expanded the show by adding different varieties of flowers and vegetables being exhibited.” He vowed to expand it further in the coming years by including other varieties of flowers and vegetables in the annual event, adding that the purpose is to encourage the public to love greenery.
On this occasion, Environment Member Mian Waheed-ud-Din said that the show would continue for three days and prizes would be distributed among the winners of flower and vegetable exhibition. Many government, semi-government, NGOs and private organisations and individuals are participating in the show.
He said that several varieties of flowers and vegetables were being displayed at the show. The organizations participating in this show are the Capital Development Authority, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Pak PWD, Islamabad Club, Indonesian Embassy, Pakistan Air Force Hospital, National Highway Authority, Pakistan Motorway & Traffic Police and others.
